The conclusion of negotiations on the free trade agreement between Vietnam and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) is expected to create more opportunities for Vietnamese seafood to enter high-purchasing-power markets with demanding standards. To turn tariff preferences into a real competitive advantage, however, businesses must meet strict requirements for quality, traceability, and rules of origin.
Three Clear Benefits for Vietnamese Seafood
Vietnam and EFTA officially concluded negotiations on the free trade agreement on July 2 and are expected to complete the necessary procedures for signing in the fourth quarter of 2026. This milestone concludes more than 14 years of persistent negotiations and opens a new phase of economic cooperation between Vietnam and some of Europe's leading developed economies. The result is significant not only economically but also as a demonstration of Vietnam's determination to pursue comprehensive and deeper international integration.
